TNEF's Enough App Reviews
Luke
It is just what I needed. It does its job in the way it is supposed to. Works smoothly. I’m so glad I found it.
Big thanks to Josh Jacob who has done us all a favor by sharing a simple winmail.dat converter and isn’t looking to monetize it, like 99% of the others.
First off all, my thanks to the developer for making a free app that does more than the $2-$10 apps on here. I encourage everyone to donate to the developer (click on the support link to see how). Unlike most winmail.dat viewers, this one opened every single one in my mail. Wonderful! A huge plus is also that it renders any HTML messages in the window, as opposed to other apps that treat HTML as an attachment which you must open in a browser. I knocked off one star for a simple reason: in the list of attachments, you cannot use Quicklook, and the double-click action opens a save dialog where I would except the app to just open the attachment. So to view an attached image, for example, you must drag it to your desktop then open it from there.
Does exactly what it says! Note: to add double-click support, 1) find a winMail.dat file in the Finder, 2) Get Info (Cmd-I) 3) In Open With, select TNEF’s Enough (or Other>Applications>Utilities>TNEF’s Enough 4) Hit Change All Now any .DAT file you double-click (even in Mail) should launch the program to save your files.
Finally an app that can open those frustrating Microsoft .dat attachments. Why this functinality isn’t built into OS X’s Mail app I don’t understand. This app is a lifesaver–even better, it’s free. Thanks to the developer!
Lifesaver for winmail.dat files
I’ve been using this for a decade, I think. Not often, mind you, but when you need it it’s there. Thank you, Josh.
This software satisfies all my needs for opening the email sending through my university’s mail system in mac mail. Just drag winmail.dat from mail app to this app, then you can see the words and attachements, and of cource, you can download those attachements. All these functions are free while you may need to pay $15 for using winmail.dat viewer.
After trying other “free” apps that claimed they would extract an attachment to a a win.dat file, but wanted you to pay for an upgrade to actually access those attachments, I went looking for TNEF’s Enough which had worked well for me previously, but stopped working in El Capitan. This new version again does what I need it to do, namely extract attachments to win.dat files. The only thing that kept me from giving it five stars is that you have to save the attachment first and cannot just double click to open it directly from this app. That’s a minor annoyance, though, since it otherwise does what I want, does it well, and really is free.
for some reason when emailing myself PDF’s from work to home they would arrive as winmail.dat this app allows me to open the attachments, quick and clean.
Works great, but some issues with translating special characters
Absolutely easy and delightful to use! My only suggestion is to include some type of language detection in future iterations.
Work Perfectly
For those occasionly .dat files.
An easy solution
Periodically I do recieve files from PC Outlook users with a Winmail.dat file. Usually I can just delete, but sometimes, I really need the document (for me usually a pdf). This program is an easy and safe way to get that document. Brilliant
Actually works
This is the only application out of probably a dozen I tried that would convert my winmail files to pdf
It works, external to Mail
You have to export the .dat file outside fo Mail.app but it does open and works just fine. Much better than NOT being able to open a goofy Microsoft file. :)
Worked great!!!
what more can I say? it opened the .dat file and let me grab the attachment
Life Savior
Months of searching for a reason and solution as to why most received PDF files would have a file name of "winmail.dat" and could not be opened. I had to find archaic ways to finally get a PDF to open properly. Numerous websites and forums have been complaining about this for years and every proposed solution I came across did not work. That is until I came across this solution AND IT WORKS! Thank you a thousand times over.
Highly recommend
Finally an application that opens winmail files that’s free and stays free. Thank heavens there are still scrupulous developers out there.
Works perfectly!
So, once you get this, drag a winmail.dat file to the desktop, GET INFO, and set the OPEN WITH to this app. Then click the "Use this application to open all documents like this one" and hit CHANGE ALL. Now, all you have to do is double click the WINMAIL.DAT file in any email, and it will open into this app! GREAT STUFF!
Fantastic
A simple solution to a ridiculous problem. Does exactly what it says on the tin.
excelente
una excelente aplicacion que no cobra y funciona bien
Great app for dealing with the crazy winmail.dat files
This app works as advertised - it gives you access to winmail.dat files. It has a really clean interface, and lets you batch save attachments that were buried in the .dat file. Awesome app!
Right Tool
Why do winmail.dat files even exist? As long as they do, this is the tool to crack them open. It just works. No charge, really?
It worked, quickly and easily!
Thanks!
All I can say is thank you
Realliy appreciate it. Would be happy to make a donation.
would have paid for this!
Drag and drop - that’s it! Thank you so much, I was ripping my hair out trying to open tax files from our fired accountant - really didn’t want to make that call to get them and now I don’t have to - thank you!!!!!!
Simply, it works!
This TNEF’s Enough works in an easy, straightforward manner. It opening the winmail.dat file I received via email. I saved the winmail.dat file, opened the app, used the File Menu to open the winmail.dat file and immediately a PDF file was listed. I saved the PDF and opened it successfully with Preview. Great utility for free! To keep it free, I see no other features needed. If some want other features, such as to be able to display the uncovered file, please consider adding an in app purchase or a Pro version with more features and charge a fee. For a free utility, this work fine by me. Thank you for solving my issue in such a quick straightforward manner (for me)!
works great
Just what I needed for the infamous windats. Works fine on 10.14.3
Life saver!!
This shoudl be a standard part of Mail.app, but since it isn't... This app to the rescue.
Great and Free This App Rocks
I downloaded others, once I wanted to use them it was $20 for their "Pro" option and $7 for any other use. Ridiculous. TNEF rocks.
Great
works
Use this App!
Do not fall for other Windat readers just because they appear higher in App Store. This one is REALLY free and works well! Other Windat readers I tried have hidden fees - especially those rated higher
It works well with El Capitan.
Thank you. Those Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format (TNEF) files are still poping up today. The sender must still be using an old email client. I was able to read the text of the message. I was also able to save the PDF file that was encapsulated with it. Thanks again.
Works perfectly
Every so often I get some .dat files from the unfortunate people who have to use PC's. This app unzips the content and allows you to simply drag the contents wherever you like. Fantastic - Thanks
Works Perfect!
Tested in High Sierra 10.13.6. File > Open.. Opened Outlook's winmail.dat with a .pptx attachment. I was able to read the email, and to extract the attachment. ¡Fast and easy! Thank you
Does exactly what it claims to do!
What a helpful application! Lightweight application, easy to install and easy to use! Thanks to the developer for the hard work on this application.
Just another happy user
I’ve just needed it once so far, and it worked great. Works fine on OSX Sierra, BTW. Thanx - Andy
Wow
Absolutely brilliant! Read, save, and print.
I am so glad this app exists!
I was getting desperate as a colleague of mine was accusing me of corrupting his files everytime he sent one through Outlook as it became winmail.dat (sigh). This little darling of an app saved me. It opens those pesky .dat files into the program they’re meant to be read in. It’s wonderful. I have also downloaded the version for IOS and now have it on my phone too. Thank you so much.
EVERY other free app was a scam.
This is perfect. Does what it says, no nonsense, no problems. Got the text, and the attachments saved and easily opened. Thanks!!
Does the trick!
Big thanks to Josh for writing and making available (for free!) such a useful little app to solve the “winmail.dat” problem. :-)
Works like a charm!
I opened the "winmail.dat" file that I received in the TNEF's Enough app and I was able to save it as a PDF with no problem. Thank you so much for developing this app. PC people have no idea what they're sending out and I'm so glad i don't need to explain it to them. All I have to do is open this app and open the file! Yay! Highly recommended!
It Really Works - For Free
I went through five of these “Free” Winmail.dat apps. Every one of them will open it to show attachments, but they want $7-14 to activate the program to access the attachments. This one is really free and it works. Thank you, TNEF’s Enough, for being the only one that isn’t a “bait and Switch” app.
It works; plain and simple
I tried several text editors and none were able to open a .dat file but TNEF’s enough. It opened the .dat file in seconds (less than that actually) with no jun code included. That is the essence of a good…make that great app. I highly recommend this app. It works.
Great Little Utility
You may not need this very often, but if you communicate with people who use Windows - and most of us do - sooner or later someone will send you a winmail.dat file. When that happens, this little app will save you from crawling all over the web looking for a way to open the file. It just works - simple and fast, with no fuss. It’s great. Highly recommended.
Thanks for a great app!
Had problems with received winmail.dat files and was a bit frustrated until I found this app. Simple to use and does exactly what it says….a pleasant surprise!
Exactly what is needed.
Perfect app. No in-app purchases. Just works. Many thanks!
Does what it says on the tin...
I thought attaching files to email was a solved problem in the year 2017 but apparently for some Windows users it is not. :-) This little app let me extract attachments from a winmail.dat file in seconds. Thanks!!
Lifesaver
I received a bunch of files in this format for a rush project and had NO idea what to do with them. So glad I found this app. Works like a charm. Huge thanks!
Solved My Pain
TNEF enabled me to save winmail.dat files on my MacBook Air and open them as sent. Solved my pain of receiving documents that I could not open and read. I am using Sierra and received MS Word and PDF files that I needed. So far, a solution to deal with this pain. I am using Office 365 because the current business world uses Office. I found the program when searching the Apple site for a resolution to the problem. This should be a standard, included program on all Macs.
Wow! Thank you!!
This was the first app for this application that said it was free and actually was free! I used it to open a pdf file sent from a windows PC and it worked perfectly. And no hidden charges! Thank you.
Great App

Works great! Would be perfect if you could open or Quicklook attachments without saving them
